Fair Housing Advocacy
Christina N Teixeira,
Program Director
CRLA has a HUD funded fair housing project providing a range of services to support fair housing and civil rights for rural populations facing housing discrimination. CRLA's work includes investigating violations of state and federal fair housing laws, filing administrative complaints and engaging in affirmative litigation, land use and housing element advocacy, and conducting education, outreach, workshops, and training. CRLA's fair housing advocacy is also supported by local grants in CRLA service areas in San Joaquin County
CRLA also works with state and local fair housing agencies, local governments, and other non-profits and community based organizations to remedy discrimination in public and private housing markets and to reduce the incidence of practices that perpetuate segregation.

Foreclosure Advocacy
CRLA's foreclosure advocacy is supported by grants from the California State Bar and the Department of Housing and Urban Development providing a range of services to homeowners trying to avoid foreclosure. CRLA's work includes assisting clients with loan modifications, refinancing, transition assistance, and fair lending issues. Staff also investigate mortgage related scams and assist clients report scams to appropriate enforcement agencies.
CRLA also provides foreclosure workshops and training to homeowners, housing counselors and other agencies. The training and workshops help stymie the effects of discriminatory foreclosure-related practices in rural communities across the state. Located below are brochures distributed at our events for educational purposes. For more information, please contact Foreclosure Intervention Coordinator, Sylvia Torres, at storres@crla.org.
