Systemic Advocacy Update Spring 2024

Learn about CRLA's recent systemic advocacy with low-income California communities, including work to defend the rights of unhoused people, support LGBTQ+ students, and challenge racially discriminatory access to safe drinking water in the Central Coast.

 

Staff Attorney - Mobile Home Project

Reporting to the Mobile Home Project (“MHP”) Managing Attorney, the Staff Attorney provides comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in MHP’s priority areas in accordance with CRLA program guidelines, the ABA Standards for Providers of Civil Legal Services, and the Code of Professional Responsibility.

Staff Attorney - RJU

Reporting to the Directing Attorney, the Staff Attorney provides comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in CRLA priority areas in accordance with CRLA program guidelines, the ABA Standards for Providers of Civil Legal Services, and the Code of Professional Responsibility.

Staff Attorney - AWP

Reporting to the Directing Attorney, the Staff Attorney provides comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in CRLA priority areas in accordance with CRLA program guidelines, the ABA Standards for Providers of Civil Legal Services, and the Code of Professional Responsibility.

Community Worker - RJU

Reporting to the Directing Attorney, the Community Worker will perform initial screenings for eligibility, interviews to determine the nature of the legal problem/s and to identify the type of legal assistance being sought by the applicants.

Directing Attorney - RJU

Reporting to the Rural Justice Unit (RJU) Legal Director, the El Centro Directing Attorney will lead a dynamic team of staff attorneys, community workers, and support staff to implement creative advocacy strategies to address community-identified issues affecting low income people communities. The Directing Attorney is responsible for developing the office's advocacy vision and tone and leading the office in delivering high-quality legal services commensurate with that vision. The Directing Attorney should have substantive experience in the RJU priority legal areas including housing, employment, health/public benefits, and education and is responsible for maintaining their caseload in addition to their leadership role.

Deputy General Counsel

CRLA’s Deputy General Counsel provides key legal and strategic counsel related to employee and labor relations, compliance, internal policies, and organizational development. You collaborate to align the strategies of these areas of responsibility with the organization's overall purpose, mission, and strategic planning goals. You and the General Counsel will ensure that the organization operates within the law, offer counsel on legal issues, be an effective guardian of the organization, and facilitate business strategies that ensure legal compliance and limit risk exposure. The Deputy General Counsel reports to the General Counsel.

Legal Secretary - AWP

The Legal Secretary (LS) manages communications, correspondence, typing legal documents, filing, travel, calendar, and general organizational matters within the Agricultural Worker Program. Also responsible for managing legal expenditures; minimal coordination of litigation with outside counsel; and maintaining/organizing records of litigated and transaction matters.
